Frog is a very important creature in Northwest Coast art and culture. In some tribes, frogs are considered medicine animals who have healing powers and the ability to bring rain. In others, frogs represent transformation and growth. To Northwest Coast Native people, frogs are associated with springtime and renewal. Living in two worlds, water and land, Frog is revered for the ability to freely go between natural and supernatural realms. Frogs are primary spirit helpers of shamans. Frog often interprets the voice of the common people in legends. The emergence of frog from a hidden place may represent magic developing.
