Manzanita (Arctostaphylos manzanita, Family: Ericaceae) is a small tree or shrub that is  found in most of California and into southern inland Oregon. It prefers a dry and hot climate but can tolerate foggy coastal conditions well. Manzanita trees grow into twisted and forked shapes. The bark is a smooth attractive dark reddish color. The wood underneath is a creamy white and is very dense and heavy for it’s size.
