Custom Dining Tables and Desks
Trestle base design accommodates a chair very well for desk use. We have also crafted custom trestle-style base hall tables.
I just delivered my custom epoxy 9′ long river table that was made from our own custom milled Western Maple. This is now in a waterfont home in Port Ludlow. The customer wanted clear “blue heron blue” for the epoxy tint. It also has tiny metal flake that looks like gold in the “river”. We added the alluvial fans at each end and the maple burl islands in the middle. It had a custom frame made to hold the pieces flat and allow a backing to be constructed for the epoxy pours. There were around 8 separate epoxy pours using 2 different types of epoxy and about 8 gallons of epoxy.
table
Live-edge maple with figured walnut at the off-center. Square shape is perfect for this compact dining alcove.

Double bookmatch spalted maple with live edge table top. The custom top was set on the existing cherry table. Why spend money when they had the base and matching chairs?
Space-saving drop leaf design. The owners took the opportunity to have their heirloom turquoise bits added into the epoxy fill. Mixed woods are walnut and local maple.

Another view including buffet sideboard. Spalted maple natural edge book matched table top AND buffet top. Customer used their own cherry chairs and table base.
This was a one of a kind, I had just the right pieces of juniper. The benches were matching figured western maple with live edges. The steel components sat on matching live edge feet.
I finished and leveled 4 of these maple burl bases of differing heights. This was a mock up with small top. The final piece had clear lucite, not wood, risers to float a 4′ by 8′ 1″ thick glass top for an oceanfront home.
A bookmatched Maple Dining table top on walnut legs and frame. The customer purchased the walnut and we put together the frame and finishe the legs. This was a satin lacquer finish, we also can do epoxy, Danish oil, or a water based satin poly finish that is very hard and also natural looking. We have done a few tops using mineral oil and beeswax, treating the top as a large cutting board we can re sand and re apply finish to if needed.
This customer needed a smaller dining table, the hairpin legs are stainless steel to match their kitchen area stools and trim. The top is bookmatched quilted Western maple.
We set this large bookmatched top on 3 sturdy stools as a base. The benches are split cluster burl with iron risers to give a less chunky look.
This top is bookmatched western maple with a walnut center. The combination of woods makes the maple stand out. The customer went online and purchased the base themselves. They sent me this picture of the finished table. There are hundreds of variations on metal bases. We can fabricate to order, or find something yourself.
The center is bookmatched myrtlewood, the lighter wood is figured maple. The customer added the live edge walnut to the combination I had to bump this up to dining table width. They had the custom legs made, I attached the legs for the customer.
walnut-table
Walnut dining table, designed for a smaller dining space. Perfect for the hairpin legs in a midcentury-styled room.
This dining table made for an airstream trailer makeover is composed of local quilt maple and walnut.
Trestle style table base can be scaled to fit your custom hall table or dining table project. This custom trestle table base and top is done entirely in Elm, but could be any wood species.

Custom Mantels
Spalt maple mantel with beautifully contrasting dark live edge looks fantastic in the new space, as yet under construction.
Beautiful maple mantel harmonizes with the entire room. The colors in the maple live edge complement the natural stone tones. The width of the 3″ mantel wood is the perfect scale with the wall stone. Beautiful!
This maple mantel has a backer piece to make installation easy and add live edge beauty. Great for full-round log homes, wavy walls, stone on the wall behind, etc.
Another great custom mantel with backer piece. It will add a ton of warmth and character to the room when it is installed.
Walnut mantel fabricated from two parts so the live edge can be even more of a feature. The staggered edge keeps it from looking too massive in profile. Contrasting quilt Maple bark-edge corbels look great.
Thick custom California Redwood mantel shows beautiful tiger figuring. We still have “sister cuts” of this amazing redwood available at our store!
Tiger-figured California Redwood mantel ready for delivery after finishing. The dramatic figuring is really enhanced with finishing.
mantel
This not-too-thick live edge maple mantel is perfect with the thickness of the elevated slate hearth and other delicate details of the room.
This piece is nicknamed “The Mountain Mantel”. It offers a ton of character with the use of the backer piece.
These clients needed a fairly thick mantel to support the use of hanging shelf “floating” hardware, but did not want a lot of bulk. Problem solved by layering together two live edge pieces of Maple. Keeps the bulk at a minimum and adds lots of wood character, while providing enough thickness to prevent splitting out of the hidden “floating” hardware posts.
Milled edge of a figured Maple mantel, worked to a silky tactile finish. This piece is being held up temporarily for the photo. It will be hung with “floating” brackets that are out of view after hanging.
Maple live edge mantel with live edge “backer” adds a lot of warmth and character to the customer’s Maple mantel. The live edge is visible from across the room, as well as up close, when a backer piece is used. can also be a good way to handle river rock or cobblestone behind a mantel, where there could be a gap otherwise.
Side Tables and Other Custom Furniture
Vintage redwood and figured maple end table designed as a companion to another custom Forest Gems end table (next image)
We sanded and shipped this wall headboard to our customer out of state. She hung it up without putting any finish on it or doing more sanding. She liked the lighter unfinished look for her room and colors.
We used our maple for the drawer and legs, the tops were purchased from a local hardwood company. This is one of a pair of matching end tables. We usually use salvaged regional woods, this customer had specific colors he needed to match other pieces he had.
This bed and nightstands were made by our friend and millwright Fred, now retired, who made beautiful chests and grandfather clocks, as well as some tables and more. We have dozens of possible head boards at the gallery and our woodshop.
Corner shelving piece is live edge figured and spalted maple with walnut verticals. Made to custom measurements to fit an odd space, now made very functional.
Another look at the walnut bookcase with it’s subtle live edge accents and beautiful wood figure layout for the back.
This live edge figured maple top was made from a precise cardboard template supplied by the customer. He purchased the legs for the larger table online and the hairpin legs on the smaller piece from Forest Gems.
This side table’s fine Gazelle legs show off the beautiful figured slab wood. Functional lower shelf and petite drawer.
This was fun. The customer came in needing a narrow “pedestal” side table to fit between her easy chair and wall. We have lots of large and smaller pieces at the gallery so you can find just the size and look you need.
Close up detail of the quilted maple drawer pulls that I shaped, against the quilted maple drawer fronts.
A customer saw our maple and walnut serving trays and asked if we could make 2 small nightstands from 2 of them. Here they are.
I love the combination of the mid century modern tapered walnut legs and bookmatched redwood burl tops. These have a very durable satin buffed water based poly finish. Oil or lacquer would darken the redwood a bit more.
The next two pictures are of two desks we made for a customer near Redmond. I even delivered. All from figured maple that we milled.
Close up of the smaller desk. Live edge everywhere. Sometimes just the top edge is enough, sometimes you do more.
This longer table went to the same home as the smaller desk in previous pictures. It has a different look for a different part of the house.
Talk about a “Forest Gem”… this multilevel custom redwood table with redwood base pieces is really a work of art.
